If you thought well known game developer ngmoco was going to stop by simply offering you We Rule and We Farm, well, I guess we were all wrong. They’ve released a new social networking game as part of their “We” series called We City.
We City features the same flavor as the previous two games, but instead of challenging you to take control of a medieval town or a farm, the game allows you to create and manage a modern city. The city is populated with over 100 buildings and decorations like cafes, salons, apartments, hospitals, and even hot dog stands.
As with ngmoco’s other social games, We City is supported by the plus+ network, which allows you to play with your friends and speed up your progress through the game. Get ready to lay roads, build numerous structures (houses, buildings, colleges), and plant trees.
In order to make progress you will need to earn money for all the projects you engage on. For example, you will collect rent and manufacture products like food and action figures. Don’t worry, the game comes with a tutorial that will explain the basics before you enter this social adventure. Make sure you expand the borders of your city, and engage in good projects so that you can keep unlocking new things to build.
In We Farm you develop farms, but in We City factories will drive your city’s economic situation. You can setup production lines to produce various goods ranging from action figures to video games to potato chips. Similar to the We Rule game where you have a crop’s grow time, in We City a manufacturing time exists for each product. At that time your finished goods will be ready for sale with a tap. If you don’t manage to sell finished products within a specified time, you run the risk of spoiled products.
As with any FREE social game experience, the developer has added a way for you to spend real-life dollars to obtain virtual goods so that you can speed up production. Developer ngmoco provides several in-app purchases of “Zap”, which is a form of currency that speeds up production. If you want to expand your city quickly, you can apply “Zap” to manufacture products immediately.
We’ll have to see if ngmoco actually lures We Rule fans into playing We City. Based on our quick experience with this game, there’s not much difference on the gameplay from their previous “We” series titles. We would like to see better urban planning techniques and clear objectives added to this game.
We City is available now on the App Store for FREE. If you download this game, let us know what you think. Is it better than We Rule and We Farm?
