More Rumors About the 7-Inch iPad, Ready for Production

Rumors of a smaller, 7-inch iPad have been pouring in for more than three months (see here, here, here, and here), but so far, none of them came from folks involved with the production of the alleged device.
Shanzai, a Chinese tech news outlet, reported earlier today that the design phase of the device is now finished, and production of the 7-inch tablet could start very soon, according to rumors coming directly from Foxconn’s staff – Foxconn is the actual manufacturer of all iOS-based devices, and like Shanzai, Foxconn’s production plant is based is Shenzhen.
According to Tai-Pan, the author of the post, the new device will look more like a large iPhone 4 than an iPad, “Yes there will be a 7” tablet, yes it’s well underway in terms of product development and in fact it’s a finished product. Yes 5 plus different designs have been floating around to help Apple protect itself from people discovering its next product look and feel but… the final design will in fact bear more resemblance to the iPhone 4 stylings than the original iPad design.”
As usual, this kind of news should be taken with a grain of salt, but given the fact that more than five different independent sources involved with Apple’s supply chain seem to agree on the existence of a 7-inch iPad, the rumor may well be based on actual facts. If the tablet enters production later this year as reported by Shanzai, the new device would then be most likely launched sometime early next year.
