‘FileMaker Go’ Update for iPad and iPhone Adds PDF Support

Two months ago, database company FileMaker released a fully compatible iPad app called FileMaker Go for iPad.

FileMaker Go for iPad has given all of us access to our Filemaker Pro database. It has allowed us to easily view, edit (add, modify, delete) or search through our entire information. It’s been nice to be able to transfer a database via the file sharing option in iTunes. But, at least for me, there was one big feature missing. The ability to export files in PDF format, and be able to share that easily with other people.

The new FileMaker Go version (1.1.1) was released today and it brings some nice features to the iPad and iPhone. The new update brings better feature parity between the mobile and desktop application versions.

FileMaker Go and FileMaker Go for iPad now have several feature improvements that include new “send” and “save” options that let users share databases via e-mail and create PDFs. You can now generate PDFs of multiple documents such as reports and invoices from the iPad/iPhone app, and simply save or e-mail the files to others. You can also save a complete database file and e-mail it, avoiding the need to sync with a computer.

The new update also integrates much better with the iPhone and iPad. FileMaker Go integrates better with your iPhone’s camera allowing you to take photos or select photos from your library on the iPad and insert the images into a FileMaker Go database. In addition, spreadsheets and other files can likewise be inserted.

Finally, the new FileMaker Go update allows developers to integrate FileMaker databases with other iOS apps. The company is providing an enhanced URL protocol that allows developers to specify a FileMaker Pro script and script parameters. This feature allows developers to create retail or business apps that would leverage a FileMaker Go database.

The FileMaker Go new update (v1.1.1) is free to current FileMaker Go users on the iPhone and iPad. The iPhone version of the database app can be downloaded for $19.99, while the iPad edition sells for $39.99.
